As a long time reader of Oliver Sacks, I couldn't help but appreciate Suzanne O'Sullivan, who, compared to the aforementioned neurologist, tackles in this book some cases that involved several people at the same time and all living in the same place。 Extremely enlightening because of how much bias there is in considering a psychosomatic illness "less serious" than one with a physiological basis。Da buon amante di Oliver Sacks non potevo che apprezzare Suzanne O'Sullivan, che rispetto al sopracita As a long time reader of Oliver Sacks, I couldn't help but appreciate Suzanne O'Sullivan, who, compared to the aforementioned neurologist, tackles in this book some cases that involved several people at the same time and all living in the same place。 Extremely enlightening because of how much bias there is in considering a psychosomatic illness "less serious" than one with a physiological basis。Da buon amante di Oliver Sacks non potevo che apprezzare Suzanne O'Sullivan, che rispetto al sopracitato neurologo, affronta in questo libro alcuni casi che hanno coinvolto piú persone contemporaneamente e tutte residenti nello stesso luogo。 Estremamente illuminante per via di quanto ci sia di pregiudiziale nel considerare una malattia psicosomatica "meno grave" di una con base fisiologica。 。。。more

This was my first time reading any popular science/medicine/psychology and I'll definitely be back for more。 O'Sullivan's writing shines brightest when she's walking through the field research she did for the book, particularly the chapters about Sweden, Columbia and Kazakhstan。 As someone who knew very little about psychosomatic illness before reading this book, I have definitely learned something new。 This was my first time reading any popular science/medicine/psychology and I'll definitely be back for more。 O'Sullivan's writing shines brightest when she's walking through the field research she did for the book, particularly the chapters about Sweden, Columbia and Kazakhstan。 As someone who knew very little about psychosomatic illness before reading this book, I have definitely learned something new。 。。。more
